4 Crucial Things You Must Do As Soon As You Hit Publish

It probably takes you a long time to write a great post. When you look at analytics and realize nobody is reading it you start to feel bad. All that time spent writing and they don’t get to see it. If your website is going to become successful you can’t just keep publishing posts and hoping people stumble upon them. You actually need to go out and drive the traffic straight to them. There’s an easy way to do that and it happens as soon as you hit publish.

It’s a ritual you have to perform. You have to find out where you can post backlinks to the new articles you write. Once an article is published there should be a half dozen places you head straight to and tell people you’re now open for business. This is more than just building backlinks. You actually want people clicking through the moment they see them. It’s not just about building the links so you improve your search engine ranking. Here’s a great list of places to hit up straight away and a guide to getting the most out of them.

Add share buttons to your site

People usually add share buttons to their site when they are posting new articles every week. This gives people the chance to share them with their friends if they enjoyed whatever you wrote. These buttons are usually for Facebook, Twitter and Google+. You do get plugins that allow you to add more platforms, but they end up making your site look a bit cluttered. It’s completely up to you at the end of the day. If you have used the 3 common ones then the first thing you should do is click each one, then your post gets shared automatically with your fans and followers.

Start a Reddit thread

The reason why uploading a link automatically to Reddit isn’t a good idea is because you can gain so much more than a simple backlink. Start a thoughtful thread with a link to your article and there’s a good chance you will get a lot of visitors clicking through to your site. If they love what they read they will turn into regular readers, so this should be taken seriously. Get to know Reddit and find out the kind of things people like reading about. You have much more chance of your thread getting +1′d which means more people get to see it.

Tell your email subscribers

Whenever you publish a new article it’s a great opportunity to email your subscribers about it. Some of them will eventually come back to it anyway, but it gives you the chance to reach out to people that have maybe forgotten about you. This won’t mean an immediate backlink, but when you have hundreds of visitors coming through to your site they should begin hitting your social share buttons and causing an avalanche of backlinks that way. The other great thing about these kind of backlinks is the new visitors they bring in, which in turn starts the whole process again.

Spreading the love

When you write an article you should obviously have a certain goal in mind. Not every single time you post something, but it’s always something to have in the back of your mind. Do you mention anyone in the post? Are you attacking someone’s viewpoint? Are you writing something that builds on what someone has already mentioned? If the answer if yes to any of these questions, or a hundred more, then you should contact these people and let them know. It’s possible they could link to it and tell all their readers to check it out. It won’t always work, but when it does it will send floods of traffic.
